In Sacred Robert Fielding responds to the landscape by way of presence, rather than simply by sight. Intrinsically connected to the landscape through lore, culture and ceremony, Fielding lets the expanse of the landscape speak beyond the traditional framework of landscape painting, with its aura transgressing any visual representation. Tongue in cheek, Fielding reinserts the artist voice, quite literally, by working the words into the paintings, giving voice to himself as artist, and acknowledging the dominance and independence of the landscape itself. This is a landscape that is sacred.
